History of the Academy

Noonan Elementary Academy, an independent, college preparatory school was begun in 2000.  From our humble beginnings we have grown in many ways.   In our first year, we were a school of 52 students in pre-K through second grade.  We saw the beginnings of a parent/teacher organization and began to develop our library with automation software and shelving.  The following year we added grades three and four in a combined class and created our first after school activities with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and a parent led sports initiative.  In our third year we enrolled through 5th grade.  We saw an explosion of activity with respect to our after school programs.  We added Tae Kwon Do, cooking, chess, dance, golf, twin sports, basketball, soccer, arts and crafts, and yearbook club.  Our parent/teacher organization joined the National PTA and with the organizational change came a stronger union between parent and school. In 2003 we enrolled through 6th grade. Finally we had enough students to separate our split class into one 5th grade and one 6th grade class.  With the advent of 6th grade we began to establish our middle school program.  Sixth grade students wore a different uniform, used lockers and benefited from the P.T.A.’s generous donation of laptop computers.  Again, our after school activities increased with the addition of French, drama, art, computer, piano, chorus, and glee club.  One of our most memorable moments came when we saw our children play their first basketball and soccer games in a competitive league.  We continued to add books and other media to our library including the Accelerated Reading program.  The 2004 – 2005 school year began with the addition of our 7th grade and by the 2005-2006 school year we had our first 8th grade graduation.

Our continued growth dictated the need for additional classrooms.  At the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year we opened with eight new classrooms, a state of the art computer room, a science laboratory, a real library, and a new kitchen.

As we look back our growth has helped us to achieve many memorable moments for our students and families.  We have added programs while continuing to provide the very best education.
